Why did you found proprep?
In Israel, we actually changed the way that students learn, with more than 25% of the Israeli student population using our website, www.gool.com, founded ten years ago. Based on the success of Gool, we decided to expand into other markets. While we know that the global economy will annually create hundreds of thousands of new jobs requiring a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, we were shocked to find out about college drop out rates in the US, and that low income students have only a 1 in 17 chance of graduating from college, leading to a huge population of young people getting shut out of the global workforce and hundreds of thousands of STEM-related jobs unfilled. STEM is an entry ticket for young people and US colleges need solutions; we see now disruption in the textbook market, and we feel our product and technology solution could be the change that’s needed.
Story or moment of inspiration to start proprep?
The moment of inspiration was when we realized that we could help many more students to succeed if we could figure out how to recreate great STEM teaching practices in an online capacity.
What’s a memorable moment in your entrepreneurial journey (proprep team)?
Being accepted to LearnLaunch was definitely a memorable moment! We felt like we’d been given a golden ticket.
What is the biggest challenge you anticipate facing over the next 6-12 months?
Our biggest challenge is getting our product in the hands of users — we need to increase traction with US students, as well as initiate ongoing relationships with US universities and colleges.
Why did you choose LearnLaunch?
LearnLaunch is the whole enchilada! It offered the opportunity to hone many aspects of our product, through both group and one-on-one work with experts and mentors; to connect to potential investors; to network with others operating in the same or similar spaces, and the chance to step back and take a fresh look at how to make our program the best it can be. We’re really grateful for the opportunity.
